Frenchman's Cove: Where I fell in love with Portland

Frenchman’s Cove is one of my favourite places to visit Portland. This destination has the best of both worlds. The river and the sea.

Bus Park in Port Antonio

Bryanna, Juissa, Rosheena and I took a Portland Coaster  Bus beside the JUTC Transport Centre. These buses are easily identified. We heard the conductor and the “loda man” (the guy that assist the conductor in getting passengers onto the bus) shouted “Portie” which is a shortening of the name Port Antonio.

The drive to Port Antonio took us through the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Mary and into the best parish in Jamaica, Portland for JMD450.00 per person.

When we got to Port Antonio, we took a taxi located across from the bus park in front of the Texaco Gas Station. I heard the drivers of the taxis shouting, “Frenchman’s Cove, Boston, San San, Winnifred”.

We took the Frenchman’s Cove Taxi costing JMD 150.00 per person. The entrance fee was JMD 800.00 with national ID for adults and JMD 400.00 for kids. I fell in love all over again as I entered the property. I could stay at this place forever. This is where I fell in love with Portland.

As I walk happily down the shoreline, the sand squeeze through my toes, visitors laughing and having the time of their lives, waves crashing while I embrace the beauty of the ocean and the river.

God spent a lot of time at Frenchman’s Cove. It’s unbelievably beautiful in every way.

I feel at peace listening to the sounds of the ocean while allowing the soapy vapour from the intense ocean to spray my body.

Julissa and Bryanna had a blast playing in the river, ocean and on the famous swing. We brought our food. They also sell food on the property.

Not sure if you are allowed to carry food but they didn’t ask to search our bags or told us we couldn't eat food not purchased on the property.

Best travel partner ever.

Parking space available in and off the property. Restrooms were well kept especially when not packed with visitors. When we were leaving for Kingston, a lot of visitors were present. For this reason, I love reaching my destinations early.

How was your visit to Frenchman’s Cove?
