I’ve had the words “Lover’s Leap” jotted on a note on my monitor, which was always a place that I’ve been yearning to explore forever. I ventured to St Elizabeth for the first time couple of years ago, and I was addicted.

I always had a passion for venturing to these locations and witnessing their beauties up close. I have been calculating the days until I go back to St Elizabeth, this time travelling to Lover’s Leap. I was sparkling with anticipation to return.

My vacation started on November 4-17 2019 and the weeks leading up to these days, I decided Lover’s Leap and the Black River Safari would be the first places will visit with Rosheena.

I have done an extensive research on lover’s Leap to the point where I am asking my co-workers for directions. I was super excited when I decided I would be venturing to St Elizabeth and see up close the beautiful Lovers Leap. I had put it so far down my list because I thought I needed to charter a vehicle which would be very expensive.

This was based on the earlier research that was done. My co-worker told me it was pretty amazing and she got engaged there. My desire to visit increased.

In the beautiful parish of St Elizabeth on the south coast of Jamaica, you will find Lover’s Leap in the Yardley Chase District.

I got up at 4: 00am on November 4 2019 and prepared Salt Mackerel with Sweet Potatoes Boiled Banana and Boiled Plantain for Breakfast. We took the breakfast with hoping to eat it on the bus.

We left the house the 5:o4 on a chartered taxi I booked days before. When we got to the bus park downtown Kingston, a mini coaster bus only wanted two passengers which were us. The day was off to a good start. Normally, we would have to wait a half an hour the bus decides to leave for its the destination.

The bus left the park at 5:20AM and our way we go to Junction in St Elizabeth. When we got to Junction, we took a taxi to Southfield and another from Southfield to Lover’s Leap.

Mizzy and Tunkey

We got to Lover’s Leap at 7:25 which was super early. This was a recording time for me leaving Kingston to explore other parishes.

Operations are from Mondays to Saturdays 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If you want an in-depth tour of the property, the cost is 400JMD or USD equivalent.

Below are photos of Lover’s Leap. You know I had to capture the beauty of the property in its entirety. You will thank me later.

We were so excited to explore the property and onto our next adventure which was the Black River Safari Tour but that plan had to change since we got to our destination extremely early.

We had to wait two and a half hours before we could enter the property. Luckily, we had each other for company, beautiful view and food.

At 10:00AM we finally got to see how spectacular Lover’s Leap is. It was worth waiting two and a half hours for. We did the tour of the property on our own which was very short. Also, we took pictures all over the property until we were satisfied. Ti was everything I hoped it would be.

Mizzy and Tunkey were slaves that loved each other in the 18th Century according to folklore. Tunkey was to be sold to another plantation because their slave owner loved Mizzy. He wanted Tunkey gone so he could have Mizzy for himself. Mizzy and Tunkey escaped. They were chased to the edge of the cliff. They decided to jump off and end their lives rather than be caught.
