I have seen a picture of this gorgeous location on Instagram but the location was not tagged. I had to find out where it was located. I’m obsessed with untamed destinations. Someone commented asking where the location was and the response was St. Elizabeth. So I started to Google Rivers in St Elizabeth but I was unsuccessful. So I turned to YouTube and there it was, Blue River in St Elizabeth.
On September the 15, 2018 I got a St Elizabeth coaster bus from Kingston to Santa Cruz. I asked the driver where I find the taxi to Williams’s field. Luckily for me, the bus was passing by the taxi stand which was located in a plaza.
I randomly ask one of the taxi driver’s if he knew where Blue River was located and he said yes. I was overwhelmed with joy until he said I had to pass through the Appleton estate and he’s not available to take a trip. So I asked if he knew anyone that would be will to take me at a cost and he said yes. (Mi glad bag buss)…. meaning I was extremely happy to hear he knew someone willing to take me on this magical journey.

Driving to my destination, I can’t believe I was in awe of how beautiful Jamaica was. This beautiful island keeps on surprising me. I was overjoyed by the clean air and unspoiled sights. St. Elizabeth’s countryside reminded me that I wasn't apart from nature, but a part of nature. We crossed a charming little bridge called Windsor Bridge and into the Appleton cane fields.
My final stop was at a mechanic shop where I saw my tour guide. I explain that I wanted to visit Blue River but he was busy. I told him I would compensation him and my stay will be only a few hours. He gladly accepted.
Off we went on his bicycle lol... my first time exploring via this mode of transportation.
Riding through the Appleton Estate cane fields, we had multiple conversations about the community. The journey was pretty rough because I was on a bicycle and there were large potholes but the scenery made it worthwhile.
The journey to was fun. I took so many pictures, I saw a cow and men shooting birds.
Upon arrival, I was a bit disappointed when I saw the colour of the water. I was expecting turquoise but it was Green instead. I think it’s because I arrive at 1 pm when the sun was at its peak. There’s a National Water Commission pump at the location.
I was still excited that I found this beautiful spot. It is a hidden gem.
I have met so many amazing people which is why I love solo travel.
