Exploring Cane River Falls

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do” ~ H. Jackson Brown

Cane River is my go-to spot to chill, meditate, relax and have fun. This is because I have a serious obsession with waterfalls and its close to my home, thus making close to my heart.

Before getting on a coaster bus to cane river I stopped in Rockford at the JUTC bus depot. There is beautiful artwork on the wall that I’ve been long to pose in front and side to take some great photos. After about 5 minutes I got a coaster bus at KFC heading to Bull Bay.

If you are coming from downtown those buses are also available or you could take the 97 buses at the north parade. You can inform the driver you want to stop at the road leading to cane river falls or you could press the buzzer soon after passing the bull bay police station on your right.

A sign “Welcome to Cane River’’ will be present when you make it off the bus.

I chartered a taxi to the fall because I went on a Sunday, which was a rest day for most Jamaicans. I could wait until the taxi packed with 5 persons. I paid JMD 600. The drive up to the falls was about 20 minutes because the roads were non-existence for the most part and the driver very protective of his vehicle.

The final stop was at a sign welcoming you to Cane River Falls. I took the driver’s number because there was a small amount of taxi on the route. During the rainy season, I don’t travel on a Sunday but I made an exception for Cane River because it was close to home.

The entrance fee was JMD 200. There are changing rooms and a bar on the property.

Heading to the waterfall, you will have to do a hike for a couple of minutes, it depends on your speed and tolerance for height.

You will pass through a cave, then down the steps made of concrete. Before you know it, you will hear the loudness of the water cascading from the rocks into a clear blue pool that escapes over an artificial wall of sandbags and rocks.

We had a great day taking a lot of pictures, swimming and a mini picnic in the river (pretty awesome right).

The river was packed. We went extremely late but we found a spot that was perfect.
