On the hunt for Burrell Waterfall

“A man practices the art of adventure when he breaks the chain of routine and renews his life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new friends, taking up new hobbies, and adopting new viewpoints.” – Wilfred Peterson

I would say it's been more than a decade since I first set out to find Burrell Waterfall, but that would be a bit of an exaggeration.

Two trips there and I missed out on seeing this gem because I didn't realize Burrell Waterfall was so close.

My Canadian friend Simone showed me a video of some Europeans abseiling down what she said was Burrell Falls.

It was so exciting that I couldn't go to sleep that night. That undiscovered treasure was going to meet me, at long last.

Because of Simone, Burrell and I are finally able to work together, and I wanted to give her a big hug but she was miles away. But she’s always on my adventures in spirit.

The fare for my brother Andrew and I to get to Papine was 150.00 JMD in a taxi.

Soon after I finished my 9-to-5, I drove to Burrell Waterfall to take in its beauty. As I arrived, I saw that the river was teeming with people having a great time.

I got an early start on the next day so I could have Burrell all to myself. There was no clogging or unevenness in Burrell's flow, and the Waterfall looked absolutely fantastic.

Someone noticed that I was beaming as I stared at the waterfall and asked if I was okay. The natural splendor of Burrell was stunning.

At the Texaco Service Station, we hailed a taxi to take us to "Brok Weh." After the island was hit by a downpour, Gordon Town Road was flooded. The road was so blocked that it was given the name "Brok Weh."

After a further three minutes of strolling, we came to a confined walkway. We overheard two guys talking. We greeted each other and continued down the road.

We passed a house we went by on the way to the river. Our next move was to bear right and take a short river crossing before ascending a steep, winding path to Burrell Waterfall.

I was told that a man who perished in the river was the inspiration for the waterfall's moniker. I didn't worry about it because I always take precautions by the river.

I was overjoyed to finally locate the waterfall I had been seeking for so long.

You'd think my brother and I were working for a modeling agency with all the photos we took.

I have a lot of pictures of Burrell and I cuddling. Even though I felt every bit of the chill from the water, I had a blast.

What I didn't expect was to fall madly, deeply in love with a waterfall on Gordon Town Road.

The sight of nature causes my heart to race. I had too much of Burrell thrown at me.  I filled Burrell in on all my aspirations and plans.

I know what you're thinking, that I'm a little off my rocker, but the great outdoors will always protect my secrets.

Because of how close I was to Burrell, I kept thinking about Burrell Waterfall. In other words, I didn't mind that Burrell had made its way into my body and was now occupying free mental space in my head.
