Unveiling the Majestic Hidden Gem of Portland: Jamaica's Blue Hole Waterfall Haven, a Perfect Family Getaway

"Love is such a powerful force. It’s there for everyone to embrace-that kind of unconditional love for all of humankind. That is the kind of love that impels people to go into the community and try to change conditions for others, to take risks for what they believe in.” Coretta Scott King

Venturing off the beaten path can lead to remarkable discoveries.

Our tourguides leading the way

In my quest for adventure, I found myself drawn away from my beloved Portland to the captivating allure of St. Thomas.

Joined by my sister Asheka, niece Samoya (Lilli), and nephew Dillion (Papi), we embarked on a journey to uncover a hidden gem nestled in the Scott Path Belle Castle community—the waterfalls that had sparked our curiosity.

Setting out from downtown Kingston, we embarked on a bus ride to Morant Bay in St. Thomas, followed by a mini-bus journey to reach the outskirts of Portland.

Anxious yet excited, we stayed close to the driver, ensuring we didn't miss our stop at Scott Path.

With anticipation mounting, we communicated our destination once again, making sure the driver was aware.

Upon reaching the Happy Grove High School bus stop, we hailed a taxi and inquired if the driver was familiar with the blue hole and its surroundings.

Thankfully, he affirmed his knowledge, prompting us to inquire about a local guide who could accompany us.

To our delight, he knew someone willing to join us on our adventure.

With our team now complete, we resumed our journey into the lush hills of Portland, where the air felt crisp and clean.

The water felt amazing. I was having just as much m=fun as Lilli and Dillion with Asheka being the photographer

After a short ten-minute drive along a narrow track, we found ourselves immersed in breathtaking scenery, captured by the sight of the turquoise water glistening in the sunlight.

Expressing our gratitude to the guide, our hearts filled with joy and excitement, matching the enthusiasm of the kids.

Our guide then left to attend to his other commitments, leaving us to indulge in the beauty that awaited.

Eager to explore, we embarked on a hike up the river, captivated by the serenity and majesty of the surroundings.

Along the way, we encountered two magnificent waterfalls, transporting us to a state of pure bliss.

In this haven of cascading water, we paused at the first waterfall, relishing the playful moments it offered before continuing our journey through the river.

Enchanted by the picturesque setting, we couldn't resist documenting our experience with an array of photographs.

Poses flowed effortlessly, as if we were contracted models for the renowned Pulse Modeling agency.

Meanwhile, the children delighted in the refreshing waters, their laughter echoing through the natural wonderland.

To ensure our memories were complete, I enlisted the help of our guide to take a few group shots, immortalizing the magic of the moment.

As time passed, we regrettably realized that we had to bid farewell to the mesmerizing blue hole.

Taking a break to savor the food we had brought along, we regretted not having mosquito repellent as these unwelcome visitors began to emerge.

Mindful of the impending annoyance, we swiftly made our departure, saying our final goodbyes to the awe-inspiring location.

With our hearts filled with gratitude and memories that would last a lifetime, we embarked on our journey back to Kingston.

Reflecting on our adventure, we marveled at the hidden gem we had uncovered, the tranquil waterfalls of Scott Path bridging the gap between Portland and St. Thomas.

Sometimes, straying from our familiar surroundings can lead us to unexpected treasures. Our expedition to the waterfalls of Scott Path served as a reminder of the beauty that lies just beyond our comfort zones.

With memories etched in our hearts and the photographs capturing the essence of our adventure, we returned home with a renewed appreciation for exploration, the natural wonders of our world, and the joy of sharing such moments with loved ones.
