“Time spent amongst trees is never wasted time.” –Katrina Mayer
Scenes from Spring Bank, a charming and remote community nestled in the hills of St. Thomas—my favorite spot in the parish. I returned to Poorman’s Corner, chasing the sound of water and the memories I’d left behind.
The view that originally sparked my wanderlust? Even more beautiful in person. And to think—this was during the dry season. Imagine the magic after a good rainfall. Absolutely worth every step of the journey. Spring Bank has completely stolen my heart, which is probably why I keep coming back. I’m mapping out a lifetime of memories here.
This place is unspoiled and pristine, a slice of heaven that deserves our protection. Honestly, visitors should have to sign a pledge to preserve their ecological and cultural heritage before they even set foot here. I’ll forever be on a mission to find every single waterfall in Spring Bank. Because heaven is a place on earth—and I’ve found it.
We were so close to this one on a previous trip, but we ran out of time. I’m glad I returned—Waterfall Number Eleven was waiting. I wish I had seen it with more water flowing, but even during the drier season, it was a peaceful beauty. It reminded me a lot of Mosquito Falls (Waterfall Number Five), and also of Lime Bush Waterfall in Portland.
The mosquitoes, however? They were ready. Turns out we’d wandered into the mosquitoes’ den. My homemade repellent had leaked out in my bag, so we had to light a fire to keep them at bay. It worked—for a while. I ignored the brave ones that danced through the smoke and focused on taking in the view (and yes, snapping plenty of photos).
The waterfall was surrounded by towering trees and lush ferns, and large rocks made the space perfect for a quiet moment—or a spontaneous photoshoot. This one was a gem, even if it was hiding behind mosquito clouds. When the fire faded and the buzzing returned, we made our move toward Waterfall Number Twelve—but not before spotting a gorgeous waterfall trail that demanded a few more photos.
The antidote that always works? Waterfalls and Waterfall Number Twelve were just up the trail. Waterfalls and no cell service? Now that’s my kind of plan. Spring Bank is a world apart. There are no traffic lights, no buildings taller than a coconut tree—just the sound of wind in the trees and water flowing through ancient hills.
I wish I could beam myself here whenever I wanted. Every time I arrive, I get the best feeling. This is my happy place. The jungle-meets-waterfall views in these hills? Absolutely insane. Every time I find a remote little pocket like this, I fall crazy in love all over again. There’s no better cure for anything than exploring nature. Period.
Being in Spring Bank feels like stepping back in time. Limited technology. River baths. Walking hours to your destination. The rawness of it all reminds me of a different era—one where life was simpler and more connected to the earth. Here, nature becomes your best friend, and I’m so grateful to have experienced this. I wandered into Spring Bank with only the knowledge of my tour guide. I left with my heart full—and a camera roll I’ll never delete.
Are you ready to explore Spring Bank yet? Which waterfall are you most excited to visit? Tell me in the comments—I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. See you at Waterfall Number Thirteen.
