Chasing Waterfalls: A Misadventure to an Unnamed Waterfall

Fresh air is as good for the mind as for the body. Nature always seems trying to talk to us as if she had some great secret to tell. And so she has." –John Lubbock

Embarking on an adventure to discover hidden gems in nature can sometimes lead to unexpected twists and turns. In this blog post, I recount my failed attempt to find Sugar Loaf Waterfall, but ultimately stumbling upon an unnamed waterfall. Join me as I share the challenges, surprises, and determination that unfolded during this memorable journey. My YouTube channel will feature content showcasing enjoyable adventures in St Andrew.

With the sun setting and limited time on my side, I hastily made my way from work to Papine, hoping to find a tour guide to lead me to Sugar Loaf Waterfall.

Fate intervened when I met a fellow passenger in the taxi who claimed to know the location of a different waterfall and offered to accompany me for a fee.

Arriving at Penfield Square, it became evident that exploring C-Pond Waterfall was no longer feasible due to the lateness of the hour.

However, always prepared with backup options, I ventured towards the unnamed waterfall.

Unfortunately, its exact name eluded me, given that it was christened by the local community.

Ascending a steep hill and passing the renowned Penfield Waterfall, we reached the unnamed waterfall, which actually comprised two distinct cascades.

As my tour guide documented the excursion, I quickly changed into my swimwear near the river, while appreciating the polite gesture of averting his gaze.

Entering the larger of the two waterfalls, I braved the unexpectedly chilly water and managed to capture a few fleeting photographs before darkness enveloped the surroundings.

With time slipping away, I bid farewell to the many spiders that had kept me company and hurried towards the smaller waterfall, which took me by surprise.

Despite its modest height, it offered a compensatory feature—a spacious swimming pool.

However, the fading light prevented me from fully immersing myself, prompting a decision to return and witness its beauty in the daylight.

Sometimes, our best-laid plans go awry, leading us on unexpected detours that can turn into memorable adventures.

While my initial quest for Sugar Loaf Waterfall was unsuccessful, stumbling upon the unnamed waterfall provided a unique experience and a promise of future exploration.

This escapade served as a reminder to always have backup plans and to embrace the beauty and surprises that nature has to offer, even when things don't go as planned.
