Relaxing on Long Bay Beach in Portland

“I WOULD RATHER OWN A LITTLE AND SEE THE WORLD THAN OWN THE WORLD AND SEE A LITTLE OF IT.” ~ ALEXANDER SATTLER

My first visit to Long Bay was short-lived because Bryanna, Julissa and I had visited Tacky and Reach Falls on that same day. Hence, we didn’t have enough time to explore and enjoy Long Bay.

On July 3, 2019, to return Portland to explore to meet the second longest beach in Jamaica.

I took a coaster bus from downtown Kingston to Morant Bay. Then a Portland minivan to Long Road to visit Turtle Bay that I have been longing to visit.

After I visited Turtle Bay, I ventured to Long Bay in Portland to finally get some personal time with Long Bay Beach.

I took a minibus that passed Turtle Bay and Reach Falls in the Manchioneal community. Long Bay is easy to find. It lies along the A4 main road and it is circled by coconut trees and the sky-blue sea. If you are driving, there are spots for parking.

Upon reaching the community of Long Bay, I stared out the window searching for the perfect spot to relax and capture the surrounding. I shouted, “one-stop driva”, after seeing a section of the beach that caught my eyes in the most beautiful way.

The only persons I saw was men fixing a bike. I walked across to road to the beach and started to organize my tripod. My tripod couldn’t withstand the heavy wind. I started to look around for someone to take my photos. I saw a guy approaching me. He came to pick coconuts.

I asked him and he said yes but his vibe was off so I changed my mind. I went over to the two men fixing the bike and saw a little boy. He was willing to take my photos for JMD 500 which I offered him.

He did a great job. He was smart and brave. He was giving me tips on how to pose. I loved every minute of it.

After my photo shoot with this amazing child, we said our goodbyes. I went over to the two me and asked to use their restroom because I was covered in sand.

The attraction is free. It is the longest beach in Portland. It is perfect for surfing. Be careful when swimming because the tides can be strong at times. If you want some alone time, Long Bay Beach is the spot to relax and meditate.

I waited for transportation heading to Morant Bay but there were none in sight. I decided to scroll through the community admiring the beach. Minutes later, a bus came and the journey home began.

A day well spent. Exploring more than one destination in a day is my new thing. Continue scrolling for more pictures.
