St. Thomas is more than a hidden gem—it’s an emerald-strewn patchwork of cascading wonders. Whether you wish to dip your toes in roadside springs or trek deep into untamed forest trails, this parish offers a waterfall journey like no other.
Tucked away in the eastern parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, are some of the island’s most captivating—and often overlooked—waterfalls. Whether roadside gems or deep forest treasures, these falls offer serenity, adventure, and a refreshing break from the ordinary. In this blog post, we dive into ten stunning waterfalls in St. Thomas, many of which I’ve explored firsthand as part of my mission to showcase Jamaica’s hidden beauty. Let’s go chasing waterfalls…
1. Reggae Falls – Hillside
This iconic waterfall is perhaps the best known in the parish. Once a hydroelectric facility, it now features a powerful cascade over a dam wall, creating the perfect setting for river baths, cliff jumps, and epic photos. It’s a favorite among both locals and visitors.
2. Jaw Falls (aka Joy Falls / Batty Hole) – Wheelerfield
This beauty goes by many names but is always unforgettable. Tucked away in the rural community of Wheelerfield, Jaw Falls features turquoise water, a deep plunge pool, and a jungle backdrop. It requires a short hike—but the reward is total seclusion and peace.
3. Copper Hole – Georgia District
A gentle, serene escape surrounded by nature. Copper Hole is less a waterfall and more a deep, dreamy river pool where water flows over rocks into a calm basin. It's perfect for a private swim, reflection, or a quiet afternoon nap beside the river.
4. White Rock Falls – White Rock Community
Right by the roadside, this small cascade flows gracefully year-round. Ideal for a quick rinse or spontaneous splash, it’s a great stop during your road trip through the hills of St. Thomas.
5. Bagaboo Waterfall
Arguably the tallest waterfall in St. Thomas, Bagaboo is a jaw-dropping hidden gem only accessible with the help of local guides. The hike is challenging, but once you arrive, you're rewarded with cascading water plunging dramatically into a natural pool below. Few have ventured here—but those who do are never the same.
6. Fish Dunn – Bath Fountain Area
Located near the famed mineral springs of Bath, Fish Dunn is a lesser-known waterfall where spring water flows gently into a natural pool. Perfect for a rejuvenating dip after soaking in the therapeutic Bath Fountain.
7. Lilli Waterfall
Lilli Waterfall isn’t just another cascade—it’s a heartfelt discovery rooted in personal exploration. It embodies everything Nature’s Sweet Escapes stands for: raw beauty, quiet discovery, and a deep emotional connection to Jamaica’s wild landscapes. It perfectly complements treasures like Bagaboo and Cloney Falls, rounding out the parish’s most authentic waterfall experiences.
10. Cloney Falls – Cloney District
This unnamed, remote waterfall was christened “Cloney Falls” after the community where it’s found. Reaching it means trekking uphill, wading through rivers, and braving spider webs—but the beauty at the end is pure magic. This one is for the true adventurers.
Why St. Thomas is a Waterfall Lover’s Paradise
St. Thomas might not be as developed for tourism as some other parishes—but that’s exactly why its waterfalls are so special. They’re raw, unspoiled, and often untouched. You won’t find crowds here—just nature in its purest form, waiting for you to explore.
Travel Tips
Hire a local guide – Many of these spots are off-the-grid. I offer guided hikes and can connect you to trustworthy locals.
Bring water shoes and a dry bag – River crossings and slippery rocks are part of the fun.
Visit after rain (but safely) – Waterfalls flow best after rainfall, but check weather conditions before hiking.
Respect the land – Leave no trace. Take photos, not flowers.
