Introduction:

For over a year, I've been teasing a project on my Instagram, and I'm thrilled to finally announce the completion of my book—a compilation of hidden gems scattered throughout Jamaica. The road to this accomplishment has been filled with awe-inspiring moments, unexpected turns, and the generous support of friends like Simone, whose sponsorship enabled me to explore the uncharted territories of Jamaica's western region.

Exploring Trelawny:

Trelawny, though, presented a bit of a challenge when it came to content. Joe Hut Waterfall, Rafting on the Rio Grande, Dornoch River Head, and Quashie River Sink Waterfall were known highlights, but my exploration of this parish was limited.

Thankfully, my incredible friend Simone and Neville came to the rescue, generously sponsoring a trip to the western part of the island to gather more content.

Bunkers Hill Adventure:

I delved into Westmoreland and St James, spending a few immersive days in each, relying on public transportation to navigate the charming landscapes.

Bunkers Hill became a focal point of my adventure, a place holding the promise of Two Hill Waterfalls and Liberty Waterfalls.

The Bunkers Hill Cultural Xperience and river tour were on my agenda, but unpredictable weather had other plans. Heavy rainfall turned the river a murky brown, but this setback led to an unexpected turn of events. Also, Bunkers Hill Cultural Xperience was no longer in operation but I wanted to know the history that resides in the community.

Nature and History Unveiled:

Bunkers Hill, located at the literal doorstep of the Cockpit Country, is a haven for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This region boasts 66 of Jamaica's endemic plants and shelters various animal species exclusive to this area. Beyond its natural richness, the land echoes with the stories of the Maroons, led by Captain Cudjoe and the legendary Nanny. These cultural rituals and practices, dating back to the Maroon settlement, weave a tapestry of history, making Bunkers Hill a living museum.

The Tangle River's Cultural Tapestry:

The Tangle River, flowing through the five-acre property, forms the backbone of the Bunkers Hill Cultural Xperience. Along its banks, adventurous visitors can explore caves adorned with Taino writings and carvings, providing a window into the past. For the daring, a trek to steep cliffs leads to a cave that once served as refuge for Cudjoe and his men against the British in 1795, adding an adventurous twist to the cultural journey.

Community Upliftment:

Beyond its cultural and natural allure, Bunkers Hill is a beacon of community upliftment. The operation provides employment opportunities for cooks, tour guides, lifeguards, and more, contributing to the economic growth of the community. This endeavor not only supports the local economy but also unveils hidden facets of indigenous culture, such as the ambush at the Dromilly Great House and Taino writings in the caves. Collaborations with organizations like the Jamaica Caves Organisation further enrich the community's understanding of its own heritage

Unexpected Guide:

An encounter with a young local became a pivotal moment. Guiding me through dense foliage, she directed me to what she believed was the grand waterfall.

However, I stumbled upon a rapid instead, capturing a few snapshots before departing. Curiosity led me to inquire about the elusive Liberty Waterfall, initially assuming it resided within Bunkers Hill.

To my surprise, she confirmed Liberty Waterfall was indeed nestled in the community of Deeside. I needed more information because Simone thought it was located in Bunkers Hill and most people in these communities are not aware of the hidden gems their community possesses.

 Liberty Waterfall Quest:

The journey continued as I sought out Liberty Waterfall, initially thinking it was part of Bunkers Hill. Confusion arose, but a return visit clarified the situation.

Searching for another waterfall in Bunkers Hill, aided by a helpful elderly lady, confirmed Liberty waterfall was located in Deeside.

Challenges Amid Beauty:

Returning to Trelawny weeks later, with the guidance of the wise elderly lady, the true Liberty Waterfall revealed itself, its majestic flow from a tunnel into the river, a testament to its uniqueness.

Despite the heavy rainfall affecting Trelawny, the sight was remarkable. Nature's force painted a different yet captivating picture, emphasizing the resilience and beauty of these hidden spots.

As I compile these experiences into my book, I am filled with gratitude for the generosity of the locals who shared their knowledge and guided me on this extraordinary expedition.

Join me in celebrating the unveiling of Jamaica's hidden treasures, each page a testament to the uncharted beauty waiting to be explored.

Conclusion:

My journey through Trelawny was a testament to the resilience of nature and the unexpected wonders that await those willing to explore beyond the familiar.

From mistaken paths to the revelation of hidden waterfalls, this adventure has become a chapter in my book that I am proud to share with the world.

Jamaica's beauty lies not only in its well-known attractions but also in the undiscovered corners that beckon the intrepid traveler.

While Trelawny's weather didn't make for the most ideal exploration conditions, the unique experience of discovering hidden treasures during the rainfall added an unexpected layer to my journey.

Sometimes, the best adventures come when you least expect them, turning challenges into memorable stories. Stay tuned for more snippets and stories from the pages of my book as I continue to unravel the hidden gems of Jamaica.
